Amazon Flex Mileage Reimbursement: Does It Exist?

Published 2026-09-06

No, Amazon Flex does not reimburse mileage. Flex pays a flat rate per delivery block, set when you accept it, regardless of how many miles that block actually takes. As an independent contractor, every one of those miles is still yours to deduct on your own tax return.

How Flex pay actually works

When you accept a block, the app shows a flat dollar amount for that block, based on estimated delivery volume and duration, not a per-mile rate. Whether the route runs 20 miles or 40 miles, the block pays the amount you accepted. Amazon is not tracking your odometer to add a mileage reimbursement on top.

Why that makes your own log more important, not less

Because there's no per-mile reimbursement built into your pay, the IRS mileage deduction is the only mechanism that offsets your driving costs. Every mile from accepting a block to completing your final stop, plus any repositioning between blocks, counts as deductible business mileage, at the full IRS rate, on top of whatever Flex paid you for the block itself.

What this is worth

A driver running four blocks a week, averaging 30 miles each, drives about 6,000 miles over 50 weeks. At the 2026 rates of 72.5 cents per mile through June 30 and 76 cents from July 1, that works out to roughly $4,455 in deductions, independent of what Flex paid for the blocks themselves.

Where this goes on your return

Flex earnings go on Schedule C as gross receipts. Your logged business mileage goes on the vehicle expense line of the same schedule. Flex issues a 1099-NEC or 1099-K depending on how you're paid; neither form reports mileage, only earnings.

Does Amazon reimburse gas separately?

No. The flat block rate is intended to cover your time and vehicle costs together. There is no separate gas or mileage line item added to your payout.
