Tolls and Parking
Quick definition
Business-related tolls and parking fees that are deductible separately, on top of the standard mileage rate or actual expenses.
Business tolls and parking fees are deductible separately from the mileage deduction. Whether you use the standard mileage rate or actual expenses, you can add qualifying tolls and parking on top.
A common mistake
Many drivers assume the standard mileage rate already includes tolls and parking. It does not. The rate covers vehicle operating costs like fuel, maintenance, and depreciation, not tolls or parking.
What does not count
Parking tickets and fines are never deductible. Parking at your regular place of business is treated as a commuting cost under the commuting rule. Keep receipts and note the business purpose for each charge.
