Platforms have to send you your 1099-NEC and 1099-K forms by January 31. That's the same date whether the form comes from Uber, Lyft, DoorDash, Instacart, or any other platform you drove for. The same January 31 deadline also applies to when the platform has to file those forms with the IRS.
The deadline that matters to you
January 31 is the date by which platforms must furnish copies to you, either by mail or, more commonly now, through your driver dashboard as a downloadable PDF. If January 31 falls on a weekend, the deadline shifts to the next business day.
Which forms this covers
- Form 1099-NEC: bonuses, incentives, and referral payments, if you crossed the $2,000 threshold for 2026
- Form 1099-K: gross ride or delivery payments, if you crossed $20,000 and 200 transactions federally, or a lower state-specific threshold
Not every driver hits these thresholds, so not every driver receives a form at all. Missing a form doesn't reduce your obligation to report the income; use your platform's own annual earnings summary to reconstruct gross receipts if nothing arrives by January 31.
What to do if a form is late or missing
Check your driver dashboard first. Most platforms post the digital version there before or around the mailing deadline, even if a paper copy is delayed. If it's genuinely missing and you believe you crossed a threshold, contact the platform's driver support, but don't wait on the form to start your own return; your bank deposits and platform earnings summary are enough to report accurately.
How this fits your own filing calendar
The January 31 form deadline lands before your Q4 estimated tax payment is due on January 15 of the same month for the prior year, and well ahead of the April 15 filing deadline. Getting your forms early gives you time to reconcile them against your own mileage and income records before you file.
Do I need to attach my 1099s to my tax return?
No. You use them to fill out your Schedule C, but you don't mail the forms in with a typical e-filed return.
